A 17-year-old Beaumont woman, Atayanna Asia Nicole Douglas, was arrested in Lake Charles yesterday, June 13, 2017, in connection to the June 6 murder of Kera Teel and her unborn daughter during a robbery in the parking lot of her Siena Apartment Home.

Teel was seven months pregnant when she was killed. Her baby daughter, Kyndal Jae Teel, died shortly after being delivered at the hospital following the shooting.

Authorities in Beaumont and Jefferson County are working closely with the Lake Charles Police Department and the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, along with assistance from the ATF and the U.S. Marshall Service to help solve the case.

During the course of their investigation, Beaumont police said they learned of Douglas' possible connection to the robbery that led to Teel's murder. Investigators then located Douglas in Lake Charles, where she was picked up and transported back to Beaumont to be interviewed. The BPD said information Douglas provided in the interview implicated herself in three aggravated robberies they believe to be connected to Teel's murder.

Douglas' arrest is part of an ongoing investigation that has already led to the arrest of several gang members throughout Beaumont, along with the seizure of numerous guns and drugs.
