Louisiana has it's share of big gators. Every year there are several harvested in the 12-13 foot range. Leave it to Texas to catch a bigger one.

Steve Lightfoot is an 18 year old from Houston who is in the record books now. He has shot and killed the largest alligator ever certified in Texas. The gator weighed 800 pounds and was 14-feet 3-inches long. The gator was caught in the James E. Daughtry Wildlife Management Area.

Louisiana wildlife officials say they don't keep records on alligator sizes but did tell WWL "a 14-foot alligator was caught in the Slidell area years ago." I bet Louisiana starts keeping records now. We can't let Texas have something else big to brag about.
