In honor of Saturday's Preakness Stakes, my hubby and I enjoyed a night at the races at Delta Downs Racetrack and Casino in Vinton. It had been almost twenty years since I had been to the races (don't scold me) and I was expecting to have fun, but we had an awesome time!  There were 10 races, and we relearned how to bet on the horses.  Different than the greyhound tracks, where we pick the winner based on if they "potty" before they begin; horse racing is based on odds, previous wins, and if their name is unusual enough to warrant a giggle.

What makes this horse track different than most?  It is a family-friendly place for all ages. As we sat in the grand stand, plotting our winnings and race plans, we watched children run around near the track as their parents visited with friends.  Babies in strollers, in awe of the horses; and hearing the hooves pound on the track as the horses crossed the finish line made my night.

One of the best moments of the night was when my hubby screamed and screamed, running down the grand stand as his #5 horse WON!  He was so excited, and a big winner of $10.  Even though it wasn't a huge win, we enjoyed a night of horse racing here at home.  Bring the family, enjoy a night of good food and fun.
