Getting the kids ready for back-to-school is enough to drive any parent a little crazy, so here are a few tips to help get the school year started as smoothly as possible.

With school back in session, many parents breathe a sigh of relief knowing they survived the summer months, but back-to-school brings its own parental stresses. Getting the kids to school on time, packing lunches, helping with homework, the laundry list of things parents worry about through out the year goes on and on. So why not get school started off on the right foot with a few tips and tricks to help parents breeze through the year.

According to WUNC.com, there are four things parents can do when the school year starts to help them and their child in the long run.

  1.  Be on time.  It's important to get your kids to school on time everyday, but especially in the first month. Research shows being late or absent a lot from school can have a big impact on your kid's performance down the road.
  2. Reach out to the teacher.  Call, text, or email your child's teacher at the start of the school year.  It puts your kid on their radar, and lets them know you're approachable and available.
  3. Plan the night before.  Mornings can be crazy,  so minimize the chaos by having a place for each kid to put their things each night so it's ready to go in the morning. You might even want to make lunches the night before to cut down on early morning rush.
  4. Don't be a homework helicopter parent.  When it comes to homework it's important to encourage your children and support them in their efforts. But there's a fine line between being supportive and doing the work for them, let them do it on their own.

Easy enough, right? Keep these quick tips in mind as the year starts off!
