While working at a little country station in Ripley, Miss. in 1968 I got a visit from a very beautiful brunette and her name was Bobbie Gentry. It was kind of uncomfortable at first because she stopped in to ask me why I was playing her hit song by another artist. She was on her way to a "Bobbie Gentry Homecoming" in Houston, Miss. and she just happened to hear me play it by a cover artist. We didn't get charts or anything back then so you played what you thought the public wanted to hear and we hadn't even gotten her record yet. Well miss Bobbie Gentry went out to her car and hand delivered my copy of the smash hit "Ode To Billy Joe". I started playing her record after that. Thank you Bobbie.
