Sometimes life isn’t fair, and Carrie Underwood learned that the hard way this week. Though she is a huge fan of Garth Brooks and would love to sing with him, her husband, Mike Fisher, beat her to the punch.

Brooks made good on his offer to sing with Fisher this week, sending a video to Underwood, who then posted it on Instagram.

Brooks begins the clip by dedicating the song to Underwood, then begins strumming an acoustic guitar to open his classic “The River” as Fisher steps into the frame. Brooks provides accompaniment and background vocals while the hockey player belts, and though Fisher’s not a singer by trade, his voice actually isn’t bad, which is how he got into this situation in the first place.

Underwood originally posted a video of her husband singing along to the song in the car, noting she’d "always wanted to marry Garth." Brooks responded with accolades and an offer for Fisher join him on stage during his upcoming Nashville show, which will wrap his uber successful world tour. Fast forward a few months and sure enough, Fisher’s living out one of Underwood’s longstanding dreams in front of her, even though she says she expressly forbid it.

“I said, ‘You cannot sing with Garth Brooks before I do,’” she told Country Countdown USA. “When I was 10 years old I met Garth Brooks and said, ‘If you ever need someone to sing a duet with you, I’m your girl.’ So I’ve been waiting for that forever. And my husband who’s a hockey player is gonna sing with Garth? I don’t think so! I might cry if that happens.”

No official word on whether tears were shed, but the “Heartbeat” singer lamented the injustice in her post, threatening to get even by playing a pick-up game of hockey with the legendary Wayne Gretsky. Hopefully Underwood will get her turn to sing with the country icon soon enough!

The artist has a lot on her plate besides managing her jealousy. On top of being a busy mom to a 1-year-old, Underwood is on her sold-out Storyteller Tour and also stopped by the ACM Awards for an edgy, memorable performance of her new single “Church Bells.” During ACM weekend she performed at the ACM Party for a Cause Festival, bringing in Miranda Lambert for a surprise performance of their duet "Something Bad." Underwood also designs a line of fitness wear called Calia by Carrie and recently announced a new swimsuit line.
