Texas Gatorfest is coming up this weekend at Fort Anahuac Park. It's one of the most unique festivals I've ever attended, featuring events like "Rumble on the Swamp" and the "Fashions on the Green Carpet" that just won't be found anywhere else. Another really good reason to go to Gatorfest this weekend is the talent lineup. One reason in particular is Cody Johnson on Saturday night. Why? Sure, we know Cody Johnson as a strong Texas Country Artist, and he plays around often, but I don't look for that to continue. He's another artist that is poised to cross from the label "Texas County" to "Country" any time now.

Cody Johnson's latest album "Gotta Be Me" came out August 5th, debuting in the number 2 position on the Billboard Album Charts. That's awesome for any artist, but particularly interesting to me because Cody Johnson did it without a record label. There aren't any "industry insiders" working this album, and the sales are impressive. "Gotta Be Me" came in #1 on the iTune Album Chart for Country and #2 on the iTune Album All Chart List. The product was up against some serious competition too, like Blake Shelton's new album, and stayed number one in Country for seven days..

I've seen Cody in concert, and in my opinion, he's a powerful performer, with strong material. This may be one of the last times you'll be able to see Cody Johnson in a Festival setting. Should he decide to go mainstream, we'll be seeing Cody Johnson in big arenas, and that's not the same. His fan club, "The Co-Jo Nation" is growing fast, and either Cody, or a combination of Cody and his team work social media beautifully, in a way that keeps him real, and Country Fans Love REAL!  So go to Texas Gatorfest this weekend. Check out the Airboat Rides, a nice carnival, and take in the Cody Johnson concert Saturday night, you just might be able to say that you saw him when.
