A mobile Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) will be available in Kinder for Allen Parish residents to help Louisiana flood survivors.  The center will be located at the Fire Department, located at 808 2nd Ave. It will open at 10 a.m. Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16.

Then it will be return to Oberlin on Monday, April 18, and Tuesday, April 19.The mobile center will be parked at the Allen Parish Fire District located at 215 W. 5th Ave.  The hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.According to reports there will be more centers opening in other parishes in the near future. Residents get answers to questions about disaster assistance, help if they recieved a Denial Letter and more at each DRC. In addition, flood victims also get assistance if they need help filling out a FEMA registration form, U.S. Small Business Administration Loan application or low-interest disaster loans.

It is not necessary to visit a center to register for federal disaster assistance. Area flood victims are encouraged to register with FEMA online or by phone.  To register online go to DisasterAssistance.gov or simply call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. Help is available in several languages and phone lines are open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until further notice.

Flood victims who are hearing impaired or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585 to register. Those who use 711, the Video Relay Service or require accommodations while visiting a center may call 800-621-3362.  All disaster recovery centers are accessible and equipped with tools to accommodate disaster survivors who need disability-related communication aids. To arrange for an ASL interpreter at the DRC when you visit, call 225-382-1739.

Low-interest disaster loans are available also available for businesses of all sizes as well as landlords, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters. Disaster loans pay for losses not fully covered by insurance or other recoveries entities.
