When it gets this cold we Cajuns make a gumbo. That was fine for the first cold day; but what about the next cold day. I decided to go for Navy Bean soup. It came out so well I thought I would share my recipe.

Navy Bean Soup

The first thing to do is put a pack of dried Navy beans in a large pot and cover them with water. Then let them soak overnight. I added Honey B Ham to my beans before I boiled them. I chopped the ham very small and boiled the ham and beans slowly for about three hours. Then I strained the beans but kept the water. I mashed the beans then added the water back in. I also added a couple of tablespoons of Tony Chachere's Cajun Seasoning, a teaspoon of garlic powder, three tablespoons of ketchup and one half of a regular sized onion (diced small.) I then let it simmer for another two hours. I gotta tell you it was delicious and perfect for a cold day.
