Watch Drew Brees Fight Back Tears After Win Against San Diego [VIDEO]
Drew Brees has the passion to fire up a team like no other, but for the first time ever I saw him get emotional after a game.
After Brees and the Saints escaped out of San Diego with a narrow 35-34 win over the Chargers, Drew spoke with the media as he fought back tears. No, not because it was the first win of the season for his Saints, but because of the location in which it took place.
The Saints quarterback was playing in San Diego for the first time since 2005—the year he suffered a major shoulder injury while playing quarterback for the Chargers in Week 17. To make matters worse, the injury came on what was literally a meaningless fumble.
The injury would lead to Brees and the Chargers parting ways and leave Drew wondering if he would ever play professional football again.
We know how that story turned out, but fast forward to Sunday—which was not Drew's best game—where he described the Saints victory as a team effort, touching on how these moments are the ones you don't forget.
These are special moments. They don't last forever. So you just try to enjoy them as much as you can. My family was here, my kids, my wife Brittany. We still spend a lot of time here. But we've never been back on this field.
Brees and the Saints will try to turn the season around after the upcoming bye week.
