Quarterback Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints franchise are in talks to renew Drew’s contract but ESPN is reporting that the two are way apart in the negotiations.

Drew’s contract with the Saints ended at the end of this season. Can you even wrap your mind around the fact that Drew could possibly not be a Saint if they can’t come to an agreement!

The BIG problem is that the Saints only have until this Monday March 5th to get something done or be forced to use the franchise tag on Brees which would only buy them one year. Here is the latest.I know what your thinking.  I did not know that Drew Brees contract was over and they need to sign him to a new deal.  Yeah me too.  It kind of snuck up on all of us.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting:

The New Orleans Saints and quarterback Drew Brees still remain a ways apart in their efforts to produce a long-term contract, according to league sources.

If the two sides cannot make considerable progress from where they are today, the Saints will be forced to use their franchise tag on Brees by the Monday deadline.

If the Saints can get Brees signed to a long-term contract extension, they would have the flexibility to use their tag on another player. What makes this important is that the Saints have two other marquee free agents, wide receiver Marques Colston and Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks.

But as it stands right now, the team and Brees are struggling to strike the deal that many around the league expected to be done by now.

So Saint fans, what do you think about this?  Will a deal get signed or will the city of New Orleans lose their minds and tear the Superdome to the ground?  Hmm  stay tuned!
