Garth Brooks says love is the answer to all of the violence that is sweeping America and the world these days.

The country superstar and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, performed at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Friday night (July 8) on the opening night of a two-night stand as part of their ongoing World Tour. Brooks marked the occasion with the final broadcast of a Facebook series he has been doing called Opening Night Live, in which he takes live questions from fans via social media before shows.

One fan asked Brooks to perform "People Loving People," the first single from his most recent album, Man Against Machine," saying "people need to hear it."

"During the press conference today, and everywhere, everyone's saying, 'How are you gonna respond to Dallas?'" Brooks says in the video above, in reference to the murders of five Dallas police officers that took place Thursday night (July 7). A lone sniper opened fire on officers who were assigned to keep the peace at a rally that came together after police officers in Minnesota and Louisiana shot and killed two black men in separate, unrelated incidents. Five officers were killed, and seven more were injured before a robot carrying a bomb was dispatched to kill the shooter, who said he wanted to kill white people, especially police officers, according to CNN.

"We're gonna respond to Dallas the same way we're gonna respond to Orlando, the same way we're gonna respond to Paris," Brooks says in the video above.

"It's all us, people. Never stop loving," he adds emphatically. "As much as you want to, as much as you want to hate ... don't do it, man, 'cause then they win. Never stop loving. That's what we're gonna preach tonight, and hopefully everyone's gonna see people loving people."

He reiterated those thoughts onstage, according to Entertainment Weekly, saying, “People, we’ve got to love one another. That’s what it’s all about. That’s our only hope," before dedicating "People Loving People" to Dallas.

Maren Morris also responded to the attacks by posting an unreleased song titled "Dear Hate," while Florida Georgia Line shared a new song called "Music Is Healing," saying they were "praying for this country."
