Strikeforce Team "Special K" struck again this weekend, this time dropping  in on the visiting replicas of the Nina and Pinta that are docked currently behind the Lake Charles Civic Center! Like a low budget "Back To The Future" knock off,  Strikeforce Team "Special K" was taken back in time to the days of sailing and swashbuckling with The Columbus Foundation and their two Columbus replica ships - the recently-built Pinta and the original Niña, the most historically accurate replica of a Columbus Ship ever built! The Niña, Pinta, and Santa Maria were used by Christopher Columbus on his first voyage

across the Atlantic and were common trading vessels. The Santa Maria, a type of cargo vessel, and Columbus didn't get along, so it ran aground and sank on Christmas Eve 1492 . The Niña and Pinta were Caravels which were used by explorers during the Age of Discovery. The Pinta returned home and disappeared from History without a trace, but the Niña, now there's another story!

It was Columbus' favorite ship, the one he very nearly died on in 1493, upon which he ultimately logged more than 25,000 miles. That ship was last heard of in 1501, but the new Niña has a different mission as a floating museum, and and now visits ports all over the Western Hemisphere.

Now the Niña and Pinta are touring as a  ‘sailing museum’, for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the ‘caravel’, a Portuguese ship used by many early explorers to discover the world.

The Niña is a replica of the ship on which Columbus sailed across the Atlantic on his three voyages of discovery to the new world beginning in 1492.  Pinta was recently built in Brazil to accompany the Nina on all of her travels. She is a larger version of the archetypal caravel and offers larger deck space for walk-aboard tours and has a 40 ft air conditioned main cabin down below with seating. Pinta is available for private parties and charters.

To stand on the sloping deck of the Niña, as true a replica as will probably ever be built, the most historically accurate Columbus Replica Ship ever built, to perhaps in some small way, enter that age, the ' Great Age of Discovery', stop by the Lake Charles Civic Center and take a look for yourself! tell them you heard all about it from Strikeforce Team "Special K"!
