Who was actually at fault in the two-vehicle crash that killed three on Sunday night in Beauregard Parish? New information released by the Louisiana State Police today suggests that initial reports got it backward.

On Monday, troopers reported that Kristi B. Poteet, 28, was traveling south in the northbound lanes of U.S. 171 when she struck a truck driven by Ricky Gill, 40, of Singer. That crash killed Poteet and Gill along with Poteet's passenger, 30-year-old Brian Edward Taylor, 30, of DeRidder. The damage done to both vehicles was severe, and all three victims were declared dead at the scene of the crash.

Today, troopers stated in a press release that it was actually Gill's vehicle traveling in the wrong lane. That information came after Troop D's Crash Reconstruction Team finished their preliminary investigation. Impairment was suspected in the crash, and routine toxicology samples were taken from both motorists.

The crash occurred five miles north of Longville. It is Troop D's 18th fatal crash this year and the troop's 20th vehicle fatality.
