Jana Kramer's going to be fighting through a little pain as she gears up for her next Dancing With the Stars performance. The singer has revealed that she sprained her intercostal muscle -- a muscle in her rib cage -- during her performance on Monday night (Sept. 12).

"It's very painful, and it's hard to breathe and move," Kramer tells People. "My doctor recommended that I do not dance, but I'm going to anyways."

During her first DWTS performance, Kramer and dance partner Gleb Savchenko performed a Viennese waltz to Ariana Grande‘s “Dangerous Woman," earning a score of 27 points (out of a possible 40). For their second performance, which will take place on Sept. 19, Kramer and Savchenko will be dancing a tango to "I Don't Wanna Be," a song by Gavin DeGraw that was the theme for One Tree Hill, the TV drama on which Kramer appeared.

"I'm worried because it's one of the things ... you have to be careful. The injury can hold you back," Savchenko admits of Kramer's muscle sprain. "There's a lot of things in the choreography we cannot do."

In addition to Kramer, singer Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Brady Bunch star Maureen McCormick, former Texas governor Rick Perry, former NFL player Calvin Johnson and more are competing during Dancing With the Stars Season 23. The singer follows in the footsteps of fellow country stars Wynonna Judd, Kellie Pickler, Chuck WicksSara Evans and Billy Ray Cyrus, all of whom have previously competed on the TV dancing show.

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays on ABC.
