It's really a pleasure to be involved in Mardi Gras in Sw La. and each ball and presentation is always something very special. But out of all the events, I must say that none of them is as rewarding to me as the Krewe of The Golden Years Ball. It's held each year at the Lake Charles Civic Center and presented by the Calcasieu Council on Aging.

There's so much hard work and dedication by so many people in Sw La. that come together to volunteer their time and money to make the senior citizens in this area enjoy a real Mardi Gras Ball. Area nursing homes select their own kings and queens to be represented at this special event. They eat breakfast and lunch provided by generous members of our community. I would like to thank our community leaders, dignataries, volunteers, and sponsors for helping to put a smile on the faces of our senior citizens. Over 1200 were in attendance enjoyed this wonderful event. And Congratulations to The King and Queen 19 of The Krewe of Golden Years Ball, King Tony Comeaux and Queen Toni Caraway.Toni recently retired from the CCOA and moved back to Houma to be with her family. She started the senior citizens ball 19 years ago. Happy Mardi Gras everyone.
