A Lake Charles man is dead after Louisiana State Police say he drove off the roadway and into an embankment of trees.

Michael Joseph Owens, 30, was traveling east on I-10 in the lefthand lane and lost control of his vehicle. He veered across both lanes of traffic and traveled off the right side of the road.

"The vehicle then rolled onto its side and impacted trees, crushing the roof and causing severe damage to the car," stated the press release. "The vehicle came to rest at the bottom of an embankment and was partially covered by a tree, making it difficult to see from the highway."

It is estimated that Owens could have been hidden from view from 24-36 hours before the crash was called in. The crash happened about 3.5 miles east of Lake Charles. The crash was the 13th fatal incident on Troop D roadways in 2014.
