Lake Charles, La. — The height of the 2016 Mardi Gras is upon us, and public safety is most important in the City of Lake Charles, so much that city council enacted a resolution on January 20 declaring Lock Park a “Family Friendly Zone.”

The Lake Charles Police Department will be on hand to enforce provisions in the ordinance that prohibit the possession, consumption and/or sale of alcoholic beverages in parks within the city. Parking within the grounds of Lock Park is also prohibited during the 2016 Mardi Gras parades.

Mayor Randy Roach issued the below statement,

“Southwest Louisiana’s Mardi Gras is a celebrated family event, and it’s important for us to reemphasize our City’s commitment to making the celebration family friendly,” said Mayor Randy Roach. “We want everyone to enjoy the City parks during Mardi Gras, and we will do our part to ensure that Lock Park and the other City parks provide a safe, fun atmosphere for the whole family to enjoy.”
