Louisiana Flood Victim Wins $1 Million Lottery
72-year-old James Lapeze of East Baton Rouge Parish is one of the thousands of Louisiana residents whose home was damaged by the floods this past August, but it looks like his luck took a turn for the better after he won the $1 million Powerball this month.
Lapeze tells WAFB, "I checked my numbers over and over again. I even had my wife check them, because I really couldn’t believe that I won!"
After taxes, Lapeze and his wife will get $700,000. They plan to pay off the rest of their house, and James says he will finally retire.
