Despite being a hot bed of NFL talent, only one Louisiana-born player has ever won the Heisman Trophy. LSU's Billy Cannon was actually born in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Texas A&M's John David Crow was born in Marion, Louisiana, making him Louisiana's only native son to win the Heisman.

John David Crow, the 1957 Heisman Trophy running back with Texas A&M before a Pro Bowl career in the NFL, has died at the age of 79.

He was the first Heisman winner for Paul ''Bear'' Bryant's Aggies. A 1958 NFL draft second pick and was a four-time Pro Bowl selection in a professional career.
