Seems kind of hot for football...but at least it's a sign that fall isn't too far off..The Cowboy's are out there braving the heat..and in pads!

McNeese State’s Cowboys worked out in full pads for the first time Monday morning and head coach Matt Viator gave credit to the play of the offensive line and defensive line.

“It was a very good workout,” he said. “I really like the effort of the players and we’re getting good competition in the right spots.”

He went on to single out both the offensive line and the defensive line, noting that the offensive line looked good on the inside game while the defensive line did a good job of pass rushing.

The team will be back out in full pads the next three mornings and will also have two workouts on both Tuesday and Thursday.

The first scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday at 6:10 p.m. and on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Cowboy Stadium, the team will hold its annual media day.

Four of the five players lining up in starting roles in the Cowboy offensive line this year are returning starters while the defensive line boasts one returning starter, that being Desmund Lighten who started at tackle last season and has been moved to end for this year.

Guards Miguel Gauthreaux and Jonathan Landry are back as starters along with tackles Taylor Johnson and Alec Savoie in the offensive line. Carson Chaisson has moved up into the role at center.

Gauthreaux is also a returning all-conference performer and he and Landry were named to the pre-season team.

Lighten is a returning all-conference player and he and Pat Williams, who has been ticketed for a starting role at defensive tackle, were selected for the pre-season all-Southland Conference squad.

Are you excited about the upcoming football season???
