It's celebration time for the McNeese Men's golf team, as they captured their first Southland Conference golf championship in 36 years. The McNeese golf team were down after the first round of the three day championship, but came back in full force on the second day, taking the lead and taking the championship on the final day.

One of the members of the golf team, Matt Eriksson, was on fire and was the only player in the entire tournament to post a score under par. He shot an impressive seven under par to land in first place on the individual leader board.

According to sports information director, Matt Bonnette, it was the first time in 36 years that the McNeese Golf team won the Southland conference championship.

The last time the McNeese golf program won the championship was in 1979. From 1977 through 1979, McNeese won three straight titles before having their 36 year drought.
