As the collegiate outdoor track season heats up, college athletes and teams are gearing up to post the best time marks they can with conference championships beginning in less than a month. McNeese track and field will be hosting their second and last meet of the season in Lake Charles with the McNeese Spring Time Classic.

The meet will be held on Saturday, April 11th at the Cameron Communications McNeese Track Complex right next to Cowboys Stadium. The field events are scheduled to being at 9:00AM with the womens hammer and javelin throws. The running events are scheduled to kick off at 10AM with the men's and women's 5000 meters and the remainder of the running events kicking off at noon.

McNeese will be featuring some of their best athletes on both the men's and women's side. Women's pole vaulter Nicole Casper is currently ranked 2nd in the Southland Conference and 11th in the East Region with a mark of 13 feet and 4.52 inches. She is on the verge on breaking the school record in the pole vault if she can complete a height of 13 feet and 7 inches.

Also featured on the women's side will be RaKira Turner, who is second in the conference in discus. On the running side will be Maegan Moore and Simone Johnson who are 2nd and 3rd respectively in the conference in the 200 meter dash. Along with Moore and Johnson, Lauren Thompson and Danielle Epps round out the Southland Conference's fastest 400 meter relay team.

On the men's side, a couple of jumpers will be featured in Kartavius Hamilton and John Lemke. Hamilton is the top ranked long jumper in the conference and 10th in the region with a mark of 24 feet and 9.75 inches. Lemke is ranked 2nd in the conference and 25th in the region in the triple jump with a mark of 49 feet and 7 inches. Also featured on the men's side will be Nathan Jones, who is ranked 2nd in the conference in the 5000 meters, and Kyle Zenon who is 3rd in the conference in the javelin.

Other teams that will participating in the meet are Southland Conference members Lamar, Nicholls State, and Southeastern Louisiana. Texas Southern, Alcorn State, Shreveport Speed Track Club, US Express Elite Track Club, and some McNeese alumni will also be participating in the meet.
