Moody Gardens Galveston Adds Ice Bar And New Theme To ICE LAND 2016
Before you know it, the holidays will be here, and that's why Moody Gardens Galveston is hard at work creating an all new Ice Land and spectacular additions to this year's Festival of Lights. Every year, Moody Gardens competes with itself to top past holiday attractions to keep you coming back for more exciting family entertainment. The ice carving masters from Harbin, China are back and creating an all new winter wonderland on the island, just in time for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Below, listen to my interview with Moody Gardens Public Relations Coordinator, Mariauna Hernandez, to learn more about the exciting new holiday attractions.
Ice Land is the only ice sculpture exhibit on the Gulf Coast. It opens every year from November to January. The Harbin ice carvers turn 300-pound blocks of ice into magnificent sculptures that are housed in a 28,000 sq. ft. specially insulated tent that's kept at a constant 9 degrees. The last couple of years, Moody has teamed up with Nickelodeon to bring the amazing life of SpongeBob SquarePants and all his friends from Bikini Bottom to life. The ice sculptures are unbelievable and truly a sight to see.

This year's theme will be completely different, as Moody Gardens Galveston presents ICE LAND: A Caribbean Christmas, complete with the islands first ever ice bar. Working in shifts around the clock, the Harbin master ice carvers will make colorful schools of fish, dolphins, sting rays, sharks, and every other kind of marine animal you'd expect to see in the Caribbean for 43 straight days. Visitors will also get to explore the breathtaking Flower Garden Banks for a magical encounter in this mystical display of the Gulf of Mexico. In addition to the underwater paradise, the fabulous ice exhibit will include the Shivers Ice Bar, featuring a menu of delicious holiday spirits, ice bar stools, and bottles for adult guests to enjoy. The all new ICE LAND will have an ice slide carved in the form of a oil rig to complete the festive experience!
