After a two and a half month layoff, it is time to go back racing!  All eyes are on the home of racing Daytona Beach Florida for Nascar's biggest event.

It is odd that for Nascar, their Superbowl is the first event of the season.  Every driver wants to win this race.  It vaults the winner into superstar status and concretes their place in the sport and the record books.

So Daytona International speedway is a 2.5 mile track and is considered a super speedway.  I have been to the track and let me tell you it is huge!  Plus today you will have 43 cars about a foot and a half of way from each other all bundled into one pack going 200 mph plus.  Intense stuff!

In today's race, a racing legends son has capture the pole position!  Chase Elliot who is the son of Nascar legend Bill Elliot will lead the field down to the green flag today for the running of the great American race.  Chase Elliot is only 20 years old and after qualifying first he became the the youngest pole sitter in Daytona 500 history!

The top five starters for today's race are Chase Elliot then two Daytona 500 winner Matt Kenseth will start second.  Dale Earnhardt Jr one the duel on Thursday and will start third.  Dale Jr is also a two champion of this race.  Kyle Busch starts fourth and rounding out the top five is Joey Logano who won the race last year.

The green flag drops at noon and the race will be televised on FOX.  Gentleman start your engines!
