National Seat Check Saturday September 24, 2016 : Booster Seat Giveaway

It's National Child Passenger Safety Week, and law enforcement agencies across the state are participating in an effort to keep motorists in Louisiana safe, especially our smallest passengers. The Louisiana State Police are teaming up with the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force and University Medical Center in New Orleans, hoping to change the statistics of child deaths in car accidents.

Too often, children die in accidents because they are not properly restrained. According to reports, car crashes are the leading cause of death for kids ages 1 to 13. The tragic part is many times these deaths can be prevented by simply placing a child in the proper car seat, booster seats, and seat belts.

It's also just as true that a lot of parents/guardians/grandparents don't realize they are using safety seats incorrectly. So this week's event is a win-win for everyone concerned. Plus plenty of safety info, car seat instructions, and demonstrations will be available to parents and caregivers by nationally certified technicians.

In addition, free booster seats will be given away at each event to those in need, while supplies. Keep in mind: one booster per household/vehicle will be given away, to allow for everyone to get the opportunity to have one.

It's crucial that kids are restrained properly, because it can mean the difference between life and death. Get life-saving information regarding the appropriate vehicle installation and best seat for your child’s age, weight, and height. This free event is statewide, and each child seat installation/inspection will take approximately 30 minutes to conduct.
