Nearly every casino in Lake Charles is hosting a New Year's Eve celebration. Each one promises fun and great entertainment. From masquerades to dining to dancing the night away, there is something for every adult to enjoy.

If you'd like to help out the veterans, the VFW Post 2130 on Country Club Road is hosting what sounds like it will be a good old Cajun fais-do-do with music by the Lacassine Playboys. Children are even welcome to attend.

The one common denominator with most of these events is the availability of adult beverages. If you are of age, there's nothing wrong with having a cocktail or two. However, there is something very wrong-- illegal, in fact-- with getting behind the wheel of a car or truck if you are drinking.

State Police have repeatedly asked drivers to drink responsibly. Designate a driver. Plan ahead. Your judgement about whether you can or should operate a vehicle is impaired by alcohol before you even do so. Don't.

I've learned of a cab service in Lake Charles called $10 Taxi Cab. According to my source, the drivers are very professional. Their website states they will take you anywhere within the city you want to go for just $10. That's most certainly a bargain. You cannot put a price on your safety or someone's life.

DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!
