Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives...What does this have to do with the destruction of S.P. Arnett Middle School in Westlake? Nothing, but it sounded cool at the time!

The old school has served for 50 years in the town of Westlake, first as the only school then as the middle school from 1967 on. Many former students are stopping by to remember all the pencils, all the books, all the teachers dirty looks!

The contractor for the job is Salvage Nine out of Gulfport, Mississippi. The owner, Ronald Jefferson, says he plans on salvaging everything from the building and sending all parts to help with the recovery effort in Haiti.

One school official says that there will be an open air pavillion, six basketball courts and a walking track for students to use once the space is cleared and rebuilding becomes underway.

The building is expected to be completely demolished by August 1st.

As they say, "out with the old, in with the new", as the same holds true still in Westlake, as we wait for the new school to start enriching our children's mind.

Man, I sound old...
