Participant Drowns During Triathlon In Calcasieu Parish

Triathlon participants are really in good shape. The disciplines of swimming, riding a bike, and running tend to build ones body up quite nicely.

However, the body doesn't always cooperate with what the mind wants it to do. This time that lack of cooperation between the body and the mind turned deadly during an event in Calcasieu Parish. 

Authorities say that 25 year old Taurean Blake of Sulphur was competing in a sanctioned triathlon at Sam Houston Jones State Park. According to witnesses Blake swam about 100 yards off shore and then began to struggle.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's spokesperson Kim Myers explained to the Louisiana Radio Network what happened next.

Sgt. Ron Johnson, who is a highly trained and highly skilled diver, threw on his tank and jumped in the water with his entire uniform, trying to find him and rescue him in this murky water, which he eventually did.

Other witnesses and trained professionals assisted Sgt. Johnson in the rescue. Blake was brought back to shore where CPR was administered. After administering life saving techniques Blake was revived and then taken to a local hospital. Unfortunately he later succumbed to the the drowning.
