UPDATE: During Sean Payton's press conference this morning, Saints Head Coach Sean Payton said Rob Ryan is "absolutely" still the team's defensive coordinator.

“I do know this: Continuing along the same course we’re on right now is something we’re not going to do,” Payton said Monday from the team’s facility. “I’m talking about us as players, as a staff collectively. You’ve got to look closely at what’s winning and what’s keeping you from winning.” -- USA Today

At the same time, Payton would not rule out Ryan's dismissal. Payton said this morning he had not met with Saints GM Mickey Loomis, but would do so in the coming days. Payton did not address any of the details from the original reports that Ryan had been fired.

ORIGINAL: It may not save their season, but has the New Orleans Saints have cut ties with their Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan.

For the third consecutive week, the Saints are guilty of giving up a ton of points and yardage after yesterday’s 47-14 loss to the Washington Redskins. The Saints defense allowed the Redskins to gain 394 yards in the first half alone. The Saints rank last or near the bottom in several key defensive categories.

Saints coach Sean Payton is scheduled to meet with reporters at 11:15 a.m.

The Saints have a bye this weekend. Their next game will be November 29 in Houston with a game against the Texans. Don't miss any of the action of New Orleans Saints football on Gator 99.5.
