A stationary front that has been lingering over the area will slowly start to lift northward during the day today. The catalyst for this motion is a developing storm system currently centered over West Texas.

Radar scans from that part of the country are already showing significant thunderstorm activity and these thunderstorm complexes are expected to hold together throughout the day and be an influence on the South Louisiana forecast by later tonight.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed the southern half of the state in the marginal zone as far as severe weather threats go. There could be periods of brief heavy downpours and strong gusty winds associated as with these storms as they move across the area.

The timing on this weather event is still subject to a margin of error but right now the best guess is that western sections of the state will start to feel the effects of this approaching system by this evening.

Southwest Louisiana and Acadiana will most likely experience its heaviest weather in the middle of the night Thursday and early morning hours of Friday. Forecasters believe that the heaviest of the thunderstorms will move out of the area near daybreak.

The weekend outlook is quite nice with partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures expected across much of the area.
