The Highlights of Last Night’s CMA Awards
Here's some highlights from the 47th annual CMA Awards.Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line opened the show by mashing up their hits “That’s My Kind Of Night” and “Cruise.”
Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood's opening monologue tackled topics like Obamacare, twerking and country music feuds, including Luke Bryan and Zac Brown, who had a war of words over Luke’s single “That’s My Kind of Night.” Brad and Carrie thanked Taylor Swift for remaining a class act — unlike Miley Cyrus. They also did a parody involving the crew from Duck Dynasty.
Taylor Swift, who was honored with the CMA’s Pinnacle Award, was first serenaded with her song “You Belong with Me” by Lennon and Maisy Stella from the TV show Nashville. She was then welcomed onstage by the acts who first brought her on tour, including Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, George Strait and Keith Urban. Paying tribute to Taylor via videotape were Mick Jagger, Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres and Ethel Kennedy.
Kacey Musgraves got bleeped during her performance of “Follow Your Arrow” when the lyric about smoking a joint came up in the song.
Before presenting the Album of the Year award, Sheryl Crow took the opportunity to remind fans to buy records.
Diddy, formerly known as Puff Daddy, along with Kellie Pickler, was a surprise presenter in the Vocal Group of the Year category. The best line of the night came from Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild, who said that they just got an award from "Puffy and a Pickle."
There wasn’t a dry eye in the house during Alan Jackson and George Strait’s tribute to George Jones.
Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker and Jennifer Nettles sang for Lifetime Achievement winner, Kenny Rogers.
Sentimental favorite George Strait looked truly shocked to hear his name called for Entertainer of the Year.
