Astroworld has been gone for a while but plans have been announced for the new Grand Texas Theme Park to open in the summer of 2015. The 630 acre entertainment district will be located along Highway 59 just north of the New Caney exit.

It appears to be much bigger than AstroWorld was with hotels,an RV area, 6,000 seat stadium for minor league baseball, a 40 acre Big Rivers Water Park, water slides, roller coasters including one of the 10 largest wooden roller coasters in the nation, outdoor amphitheater for concerts and much more. The plans are for seven theme areas devoted to Lone Star history and culture.
