I don’t know about you, but when I think of Australia, I imagine Paul Hogan as Crocodile Dundee mixed with Steve Irwin riding in a Ford Falcon around the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Mad Max while every animal on the continent tries to kill every other animal on the continent. But maybe that’s just me.

What I don’t think of is the southern twang of American country music, though. Until I listened to InnocentEve, anyway.

Rachel Smith and Rebecca Olsson - Rachel and Bec - make up the duo from the land down under, although they sound more like they’re from the Dirty South than the land of Oz. And I mean that in a good way.

Even though Australia is no stranger to producing country music artists - Keith Urban comes to mind - it’s still weird to hear that good ol’ southern drawl come out of an Aussie’s singing box. Weird, but great.

InnocentEve will be playing at this year’s Americanafest over in Nashville this September, if you want to check them out. In the meantime, you can hit up their YouTube channel to listen to more of their Australian Americana.

Here’s their cover of CCR’s “Proud Mary”:

G’day, mate!
