Tropical System Could Threaten The Gulf By Next Week

A tropical wave has formed in the southern Caribbean Sea and if this system holds together it could become a concern for the Gulf of Mexico by as early as next week. Forecasters with the National Hurricane Center say this area of disturbed weather near the island of Aruba has a 50% probability of strengthening into a tropical cyclone.

Should that strengthening occur the system is forecast to move northwestward across the very warm waters of the Caribbean Sea and into the Bay of Campeche or the southwestern Gulf of Mexico by Monday or Tuesday of next week.

This could mean a tropical threat for the Texas or Louisiana coast by the latter part of next week. Our advice to you is to stay close to this website over the next several days as we will bring you updated information on the system should it strengthen and move along the projected track.

Elsewhere in the tropics, another strong tropical wave is rolling off the African continent in the vicinity of the Cape Verde Islands. This system has been given an 80% probability to strengthen and will most likely become the next named storm of the 2017 Hurricane Season.

This system could pose a threat to the outer islands of the Caribbean by early next week if it stays on its projected track.
