Tropical Formation Likely (Updated 8/22)

NOAA now gives this area of low pressure a 80% chance of development during the next five days.

Shower and thunderstorm activity associated with an elongated area of low pressure north of the Virgin Islands now has a60% chance of development in the next 48 hours and an 80% chance of development in the next five days. The good news is that the current projected path steers the storm away from the Gulf of Mexico.  We will keep an eye on this and keep you up to date.

A Hurricane Hunter aircraft may investigate the system again this afternoon.
