Tom Cochran.     Does that name sound familiar?       No?

Born in Canada in 1953 he wrote his first song when he was only 11, and got  his first guitar before he was 13.  He joined the band Red Rider in 1978 and they had some modest hits in Canada and in 1981 the song Lunatic Fringe climbed to #11 in Billboard.

Lunatic Fringe is one of my favorite songs and the story behind it is pretty remarkable.

In 1991 Tom released a solo album titled Mad Mad World

The first song on the album turned out to be Tom's most popular.

In 2006 Rascal Flatts covered this song for the animated film Cars. The song was also a bonus

track on their album Me and My Gang, and also was included on their Greatest Hits Volume 1.

The Rascal Flatts version  became a hit on the US Hot 100 chart, where it peaked at number 7.
