The thunderstorms that raged throughout Calcasieu Parish on Friday night, left nearly 14,000 without power, and caused minor damage to the Lake Charles Civic Center.

A Lafayette Parish grand jury indicted Brandon Scott Lavergne for the first degree murder of the still-missing Mickey Shunick.  But in a bombshell, grand jurors also found enough evidence to also charge him with the first degree murder of an Acadia Parish woman who was found dead in 1999.

Calcasieu Parish Mosquito Control Director Scott Willis has announced that mosquito populations in Southwest Louisiana are expected to explode due to the recent amount of rainfall.

Deputies from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandon W. Treadway, 21, Brian H.  Treadway, 39, and Jennifer L. LaPrime, 23, all of Lake Charles, at the Highway 14 Wal-Mart after being found to be in possession of stolen merchandise.  After further investigation it was found that the three were operating a crystal meth lab.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury depends on local citizens to report local inadequacies such as potholes, sidewalk hazards, and stray animals to them so they can respond.  Today they announced the launch of their Calcasieu EagleApp which strives to make it easier for citizens on the go to perform their civic duties.
