HOUSTON, TEXAS: In South Texas, severe thunderstorms are expected to begin today and continue through tomorrow, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). We have all the details.

Additionally, according to the NWS, a more powerful cold front is expected to make its way to South Texas on Saturday, resulting in a storm that is more severe than those that are expected to occur today and Wednesday.

The NWS in Houston released an update on the in coming storm today on social media. They have also released many warnings for strong winds, hail, and tornadoes on their X and Facebook pages.

Gulf weather special Zack Fradella says we'll see a trio of storms in the next week that he's calling a "parade of storms".

Both Fradella and the NWS are saying that the storm this weekend will usher in much colder weather for South Texas.

Southwest Texas' Three Day Forecast:

  • This Afternoon: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 4pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 70. North wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 3am. Patchy fog after 7pm. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 64. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 3pm, then a slight chance of showers. Patchy fog before 10am. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 48. North wind 5 to 10 mph.
  • Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 57. North wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
  • Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 45.
