Head Coach Willie Fritz has been slowly turning around the Tulane football program since he took the reins in 2016. This past season the Green Wave came off a 2-10 record in 2021 to shock the world with a 12-2 in 2022 and upset USC in the Cotton Bowl.

The first thing I thought when I heard that Tulane had hired Guidry was they're setting him up to be their heir apparent to Fritz. He has head coaching experience and has made mistakes to learn from. I think that's the most important aspect of the hiring. Guidry knows what didn't work before and will be able to navigate a team and staff better than before.

Coach Fritz is 62 years old. I would imagine he probably has another 3-4 years of coaching left in him. That will give Guidry enough time to get acclimated to the program and the players before, I presume, he's promoted to head coach when Fritz retires.
