On Thursday, October 17, according to the American Press, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury announced that weather conditions in Southwest Louisiana have made burning trash/debits or any other materials involving an open fire unsafe. Effective immediately, an executive order for a Burn Ban is now in place for the area until further notice.

Police Jury President Anthony Bartie signed the order and prohibits all private outdoor burning of any kind. The executive Burn Ban Order gives the Calcasieu Parish Fire Department authority to extinguish all fires that violate this ban.

Local officials report the dry and windy conditions in Calcasieu Parish pose a danger for open fires to spread. The only exception to this order is prescribed burns. Any resident who violates the Burn Ban Order may face penalties.
