SWLA Center For Health Services Celebrates 45 Years In Lake Charles

SWLA Center for Health Services is celebrating 45 years of serving the needs of families in the community.  in the Greater Lake Charles area. For more than 3 decades, SWLA Center for Health Services has cared for the needs of the families in our community.

Formally known as Bayou Comprehensive the flagship center at 2000 Opelousas Street opened in 1981. However, the building was heavily damaged after Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta in 2020. The facility is open, but operating in less than half of the original space. In the meantime, to make sure care in the community remains 3 more extension sites in Lake Charles have been added located in JD Clifton Elementary School, SOWELA Technical Community College, and inside the Imperial Health Building on Michael DeBakey dr.

This way costs stay down and care continues to be quality and a priority. Despite hurricane damages, SWLA CHS has grown by leaps and bounds. They went from one center and five employees to hundreds of team members and eight locations. Under the leadership and direction of the late CEO, Eric Taylor, SWLA Center for Health Services has satellite sites in Oberlin, Crowley, and Lafayette.

Under the direction of the newest CEO, Mr. William Brent III, SWLA CHS has added 3 School-Based Health Centers in Lake Charles at Kaufman Elementary, Carencro Middle School (Carencro) & Alice Boucher in Lafayette. Another addition is the mobile unit that allows them to provide medical and dental treatment across Louisiana.

Their journey continues as plans for redevelopment are in the works this year! Saturday COVID Vaccination Clinics began Saturday, February 4, and will end on Saturday, May 27. The clinic is open to the public from 8 am to 2 pm. For more information see the flyer below:
