There was a very scary moment during the LSU versus Alabama baseball game in Baton Rouge on Sunday. During the course of that game Alabama catcher Mac Guscette was hit by a pitch in the neck by an errant pitch during the seventh inning.

A witness to the incident said that Guscette took the pitch to the throat area just below the protection of his catcher's mask. The witness said Guscette stood up from the blow, took a few sips of water, and then passed out on the field of play.

The medical training staffs from both the University of Alabama and LSU assisted in treating the injured player. After a few moments on the ground, Gusette was assisted off the field and carried to a training room behind the LSU dugout.

A subsequent tweet from the University of Alabama Baseball Twitter account let fans know that Guscette was "alert and doing well".  The Tweet went on to explain that the Junior Catcher from Nokomis Florida was going to undergo more tests just to make sure there were no other issues following the injury.  Speculation from the Alabama medical staff was that Guscette would be okay.

Following Guscette's injury play resumed and LSU went on to win Sunday's game by a score of 13 to 11. The top-ranked Tigers swept Alabama in the weekend series. LSU's record on the 2023 season stands at 35-8 overall with a record of 15-5 in the Southeastern Conference. The Tigers have a Tuesday night game against Southeastern Louisiana before they head to Auburn for a weekend series against those Tigers which begins on Friday, May 5th.
