The never-ending nightmare that is the I-10 bridge over the Calcasieu River in Lake Charles will once again become a traffic menace during the month of October. Officials with Louisiana's Department of Transportation and Development have announced that bridge traffic will once again be subjected to alternating lane closures.

The closures are expected to begin today with the Eastbound Outside lanes closed until October the 12th. Then on Saturday and Sunday, both eastbound lanes of travel will be closed from 9 PM on Friday the 12th until 5 AM Monday the 15th. Eastbound maintenance will conclude on Monday the 15th and Tuesday the 16th with the outside lanes being closed once again.

Westbound repairs will begin on October the 17th with the outside lanes being closed through October the 26th. Then both westbound lanes of travel will close at 9 PM on the 26th and remain closed until 5 AM on October the 29th. Westbound travel will then be once again restricted to the inside lanes as the outside lanes of travel will be closed through November 5th.

DOTD recommends that you choose an alternate route during these periods of repair on the bridge. If you can navigate around town without using the bridge then you are requested to do so. Otherwise, authorities suggest that you use I-210 to avoid the anticipated congestion because of the work being done on the I-10 bridge.
