Lake Charles, La. - On Thursday, July 27, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 2 a.m., the Lake Charles Police Department arrested several juveniles for curfew violations and cited others in a city wide detail.

Under Lake Charles City Ordinance no one under the age of 17 should be out after 11 p.m. Authorities stopped and arrested offenders who were not only minors, but any parent, guardian, or persons "having care or custody of the minor" were also cited for "improper supervision of a minor" under Louisiana state law, said a media release.

Anyone over the age of 17 accompanying the minor, even if it wasn't their parent or guardian, was also "ticketed" for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The results of the city wide curfew details are below.

  • Juveniles arrested for curfew violation: 7
  • Citation for Improper Supervision: 7
  • Citation for Contributing to Delinquency of minor: 5

The purpose of the detail is to take a proactive approach in identifying, apprehending and holding parents/legal guardians of minors staying out after curfew hours, responsible for their child’s actions. It is also to keep minors who are out after curfew from becoming victims of crimes or committing crimes. The Lake Charles police Department Juvenile Division randomly conducts this operation.  - Lt. Kevin Kirkum, LCPD

Curfew hours in the City of Lake Charles for any minor under the age of 17 is as follows:

Parents or guardians found guilty of the ticketed citation "shall be fined not more than $100.00 or imprisoned not more than 30 days, or both fined and imprisoned, in the discretion of the court," said Kirkum.
