I have a really cool story for you. Over the weekend, I was at the Lake Charles Event Center (Civic Center) doing a live broadcast for the gun show when I decided to take a stroll around the grounds.

I came upon this plaque you see above of a time capsule that had been buried on the ground nearly 50 years ago. I decided to read the plaque and noticed that the time capsule would be opened in 2026.

It basically says in part that the City Of Lake Charles Bicentennial Commission donated this time capsule on November 29, 1976, and it was set to be opened on November 29, 2026, which is just a little over three years from now.

What is a time capsule you ask? It is defined as:

It is a container that holds historical records or objects representative of current culture that is deposited (as in a cornerstone) for preservation until discovery by some future age. --Google

So what could be in the Lake Charles time capsule? That is the part that makes us curious. I mean think about Lake Charles and where we were almost 50 years ago. The Capital One tower wasn't even built. The Civic Center was only a few years old at the time.

The last time capsule that was open in Lake Charles was in 2017 which contains newspapers from the era it was buried, letters, coins, and a letter from the old mayor back then.

Some of the same and probably even more cool things are buried in the current time capsule. So if you are around the Lake Charles Event Center anytime soon, go by there and check it out. It is located in front of the big fountain and outside stairway in the front of the Lake Charles Civic Center.
