The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office reports that a four-year-old boy is dead after a man who may be his uncle stabbed him to death.

John W. Hatfield, III, of DeRidder, will face first-degree murder charges after witnesses said they heard four-year-old Tanner Bailey scream, and then found him with a chest wound.  They called 911 shortly after 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon.  Bailey was  unresponsive when first responders got to him, and he was airlifted to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Ricky Moses told KPLC News Hatfield has a criminal history, most recently including a 2010 arrest for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  Moses said sheriff's deputies were "very familiar" with Hatfield.
