South Lake Charles Little League will host a MLB Baseball Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Power Center on Derek Drive in Lake Charles. The event will take place from 9 a.m-3 p.m., is open to those who are 7-18 years old, and the cost is $20 per person. Every participant should bring a sack lunch.

“This will be a great event for the kids,” said Ron Turner, league president. “They will get instruction in batting techniques, brush up on the fundamentals of the game, and get to meet and interact with former and current minor and major league baseball players and coaches.”

Turner said that local coaches can take part in a coaches’ seminar that will also be held during the clinic.

Featured guest of the clinic will be Ron Washington, who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, and who has been manager of the Texas Rangers since 2007.

Other special guests who will be on hand for the clinic are former Barbe High School baseball stand-outs Gavin Cecchini, Carmen Angelini, and Garin Cecchini. Gavin Cecchini plays for the NY Mets, Angelini plays for the Trenton Thunder, and Garin Cecchini plays for the Boston Red Sox. Other players and coaches may also be participating in the event.
