We have learned that a Texas-based restaurant called Golden Chick is planning to open two locations in Southwest Louisiana. Have you ever heard of Golden Chick?

The first Golden Chick was opened in San Marcos, Texas in 1967 and was originally called Golden Fried Chicken. In 1993, the name of the chain was renamed to just Golden Chick. According to their website,

Our new name was introduced in 1993 complete with our new mascot, Clucky the Chicken. Golden Chick proudly serves the best prepared and flavorful chicken and side dishes in the industry. Our tagline of “The Original and Still the Best” harkens back to our roots in 1967 in San Marcos, Texas. We are quickly growing but remain humble and true to our “born in Texas” heritage.

In 2006, the food chain started offering freshly baked yeast rolls that are baked fresh and hot every day and are a unique item you can’t get anywhere else. The restaurant also features fried chicken, biscuits, seafood, sandwiches, salads, and sides.

So where are these two new locations of Golden Chick going to be located in Southwest Louisiana? Yesterday they broke ground at the Lake Charles location on Highway 14 by Big Lots. Lake Charles Mayor Nic Hunter was on hand yesterday to welcome the new food chain.

The other location will be in Sulphur, Louisiana, at 251 North Cities Service Highway. For reference, the new restaurant will be by the Super Walmart according to  Calcasieu.org.

If you like fried chicken or like to try out new spots, get ready to give it a shot.
