Today my parents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, and I can not be more proud to be their daughter.  Through thick/thin, sickness/health, good times and not so good times, these two beautiful people have shown my sister, brother, and I what a true marriage is all about.  Faith, the power of God, and a whole lot of Novena's said by my mother.  If you ask them what the secret to a long, lasting marriage is...I believe they will tell you "we don't know!"  They love and are in-love with each other, friends and partners.  The story follows like this...

One Friday night in the Fall of 1962 my parents met by happenstance, at a LaGrange High School dance.  My mother, new in town, knowing a few friends, attended her first high school dance at LaGrange High as a junior.  After the dance, my mother was waiting outside for her dad to bring her home.  My father approached and asked if she needed a ride?  Of course, being a good catholic girl, she said no and proceeded to go home.  That Monday morning, my dad appeared at the locker next to hers, having kicked a lower-classman out of his locker so my dad could be near my mom.  Or, so he says.  Her account: this boy (who was very handsome....she admitted) kept "stalking" her and trying to get her number.  Whatever it was, it has lasted a lifetime and more.

I used to love to hear that story when I was a kid, dreaming of the day I would meet my future husband and have a marriage like theirs.  It isn't perfect, and it has not been an easy road, but it is their love story and I am so thankful to witness the gifts God gives them on a daily basis.  We are going to celebrate as a family with Mass on Saturday and then a little dancing at a Fa Do Do!
